Gamester Apes

A character collection for Block Ape Scissors, built around a recognisable illustrated ape identity across a wide range of personalities and visual variants.

01 · Character language

One identity. Many personalities.

The collection keeps the ape recognisable while changing hair, clothing, accessories, facial hair and attitude. The challenge is visual consistency without making the characters feel interchangeable.

02 · Consistency

Variation without losing the character.

Across the portraits, the base anatomy, proportions, rendering style and orange backdrop remain stable. Variation comes through a controlled set of visible character cues rather than a different illustration language for every piece.

03 · Visual system

A consistent visual grammar.

What holds the collection together is not one costume or one expression, but a repeated graphic grammar: bold outlines, controlled grey values, crisp highlights, compact portrait framing and the same saturated orange field.

04 · Contribution

Character design with visual consistency.

My contribution focused on the illustrated character work and the consistency of the collection as a visual whole. The resulting system supported a collection of 10,000 character variants: distinct personalities that still read immediately as part of the same Block Ape Scissors world.
